Would we use Wikipedia?

Wikipedia is valuable as a supplement to regular classroom research. Our chief concern is that information can be changed quickly and difficult to site as a source. We are further concerned that anyone can author the information and certain students within the classroom would be likely to sabotage the assignment.

Grade Level Recommendations:

We feel that the information can generally be used after the upper grades, but is perhaps best suited for highschool students. We feel that lower elementary school students need core experiences in finding viable resources and middle school students might still find the concept too abstract. It is a great place to find general information to launch a more detailed research of the subject.

Group Input:

Jon: I think wiki can be used to practice writing and editing papers. Especially in a high school where they are required to write term papers. Students need to learn how to grade their own writing. correct grammatical and spelling errors.

Matt: I'm thirsty

Wren: I can't see using this with first graders.

Tina: I've used Wikipedia at home quite often. I use is to do a general hunt for information so that I can refine my search. I've also used it to help my own children with their homework.

Mike: I just don't see how useful it is.
